WAEC Says They Are Working To Release Withheld Results

Following the release of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination results, the West African Examination Council says it is working to release the withheld results. This news comes as a disappointment to many students and parents; however, the public has been assured by WAEC that they are at work.

In a statement, WAEC said the results of 33 school candidates and three private candidates have been withheld. Again, results related to candidates from 149 schools have also been under review owing to various forms of malpractice that occurred during the examination period. The malpractices, it said, range from administrative errors on the part of supervisors to candidates failing to follow instructions to delay processing.

John Kapi, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, has appealed for patience from the parents and guardians. He said the situation, though unfortunate, was receiving the attention it deserved and with urgency. "Some of the withheld results are due to mistakes by both supervisors and candidates," he observed. He cited an instance where there could be a marking of a music script, but the related design work may not be completed by the same examiner, which then creates complications.

Kapi said WAEC's staff had been working tirelessly to address the issues and release the results as soon as possible. "We want to appeal to parents and guardians to exercise restraint because, certainly, we had our people working throughout the night," he said.

While delays in the release of results from such exams may give anxious moments to students awaiting their next educational steps, this assurance from WAEC that the pending results will be released soon is a relief. The diligence of the council in working out a solution to these issues underlines their serious interest in the integrity of the examination process.
