WATCH VIDEO: The Moment Kennedy Agyapong Faced Anas In A USA Court Over Defamation Suit
Former MP for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, faced Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in a USA court over a defamation case filed against him by the undercover journalist.
According to multiple reports, the Ghanaian businessman cum politician some years ago, accused Anas of being a “criminal” and a “thief,” further alleging his involvement in the murder of fellow journalist Ahmed Suale and the deaths of several Chinese nationals.
However, the popular journalist argued that these claims were false and did not only tarnish his reputation but also endangered his life.
After years of attempts to let justice take its cause, a US court has finally ruled in favour of the investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, awarding him $18 million in damages in a defamation case against former Ghanaian MP Kennedy Agyapong.
The Essex County Superior Court’s decision emanates from a lawsuit Anas filed years ago after Hon. Ken Agyapong made those damning allegations against him during a 2021 interview on The Daddy Fred Show.
This legal victory comes after Ghana’s Supreme Court had earlier in some years, dismissed the same defamation case filed by the masked journalist against Hon. Ken Agyapong.
However, Despite the Former MP's justification that his remarks were made in the heat of political discourse, the US court found them to be defamatory.
The defamation case between investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Hon. Ken Kennedy Agyapong has its roots in a long-standing feud between the two, largely centred around Anas’ undercover journalism and Agyapong’s outspoken criticism of his methods.
