The SOAS University of London offers various scholarships for international students, including the Governance for Development in Africa Initiative scholarship. The scholarship funded by Mo Ibrahim Foundation and facilitated by the Centre for African Studies at SOAS University of London is designed to support African nationals pursuing a PHD with a focus on state capacities, governance and bureaucracies and others.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be an Arican National
- Be accepted to pursue a PHD at SOAS University of London by 31st March, 2025
- Have strong academic records
- Show interest in and commitment to the public sector, governance and state development in Africa.
BENEFITS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship provides:
- Tuition fees coverage
- A stipend for living expenses
HOW TO APPLY
Interested candidates must submit an application form and supporting documents including;
- A completed online application form sent directly to the SOAS Doctoral School
- A research proposal during the school application process
- A two-page statement detailing your knowledge and interest in governance-related issues for the scholarship application
- A copy of the front page of a valid passport for scholarship application
- Transcripts from previous academic studies for PHD application
- One academic reference to be sent directly by the referee to the email ab17@soas.ac.uk. for scholarship application
- An updated CV which includes an active email address for scholarship application.
