Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, has reaffirmed the Minority Caucus' intention to take the majority in Parliament on Tuesday, October 22, even though the Speaker's announcement of four open seats was recently halted by a Supreme Court decision.

Sam George attacked the courts at a National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory walk in the North Tongu constituency, claiming that political forces had influenced it. He maintained that the judiciary's independence is being undermined by growing political meddling in recent court rulings, such as the one pertaining to the vacant parliamentary seats.

"Take this recording to the Chief Justice that I said, I am now the vice chairman of the select committee on communication because I am part of the majority. Tell the judiciary that enough of the politics in our judiciary,” he remarked, as quoted by citinewsroom.com.

He continued by expressing his displeasure with the Supreme Court's stance, contending that it is working against justice and in support of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). "The Supreme Court is not an extension of the NPP headquarters; rather, it is a judicial branch".

But this defence is not going to only end on Tuesday. It starts from Tuesday until John Mahama is sworn in on 7 January 2025, and John Mahama needs a solid parliament"

"He needs men he can rely on.” He also referred to Mahama's recent trip to Ningo Prampram, where the former president emphasized the need for strong parliamentary backing.

Two days ago, he was in my constituency, and he told the people of Ningo Prampram that he needs parliamentarians. He needs them to vote for their MP, and that is what I can tell you.” Sam George commended North Tongu's MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his services and asked the people to keep backing their representative.

In Parliament today, of 275 MPs, if you want to count even five who are doing their job, your MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is one of them. He needs people like Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa standing behind him in Parliament. He needs Okudzeto Ablakwa. So, my brothers and sisters of North Tongu, on behalf of the NDC parliamentary caucus, we say thank you for giving us Ablakwa. We ask you to bring him back for us.”

The parliamentarian's comments coincide with a period of high emotions brought on by several contentious court decisions that have affected the political climate.  The NDC leadership looks dedicated to becoming a majority in Parliament as the party gets ready for the next parliamentary session, with an emphasis on guaranteeing robust representation for the people in the event that John Mahama is elected president.
