The Wadsworth African Fellowship is Offering Scholarships to African Students
Pursue your doctoral dreams in anthropology, archaeology or biology archaeology in a South African University with the WADSWORTH AFRICAN FELLOWSHIP. This scholarship program supports African students in their academic journey providing a comprehensive funding package to cover various expenses.
BENEFITS OF THE FELLOWSHIP
- Receive an award of $20,000 to cover travel cost, living expenses, tuition and research cost
- Ability to renew the award for up to two additional years, subject to successful completion of each preceding year
- Ability to apply for an extra year of support for dissertation.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Doctoral students from Africa who are residents and/or citizens of Africa pursuing a PHD or its equivalent at a South African University
- Members of underrepresented groups in academic anthropology and archaeology
- Scholars who are applying, have applied or have already gained admission to study in a South African University.
- Applicants must have a host sponsor or supervisor who is also a member of the South African University where the applicants plans to study.
- The Applicant must also have a home sponsor who is a member of the institution at which the applicant completed prior degree.
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants may submit only one application per funding season
- Applicants must prove that they have sufficient funds to live on as a student in addition to the Wadsworth African Fellowship
- Applicants seeking financial support for dissertation and field work are not eligible to apply.
- Successful students must provide proof of their excellent academic achievement in their previous anthropology or a related field.
- Applicants must also be able to show how their chosen program aligns with the Fellowship's mission to advance anthropology.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The scholarship is opened to high achieving African students who might not otherwise be able to pursue a doctorate degree for one reason or another. The Fellowship is ready to sponsor these students with the potential to advance anthropology in their home countries and globally. The fellowship pays close attention to the letters of support from sponsors in the host institution and sponsors from the home country in the evaluation process.
HOW TO APPLY
Applicants must provide the following information during the application process:
- General information about you, your home institution and sponsor, and the host institution and sponsor
- Outline of a detailed budget
- Information about your proposed plan of study, your research interests and professional plans
- Copies of official transcripts in English
- Proof of proficiency in the language you'll be receiving training
- Curricular Vitae for the applicant and host sponsor
- Letters of support from both the home sponsor and the host sponsor should be sent directly to internationalprograms@wennergrer
