Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has suspended sitting indefinitely.

Announcing the decision to suspend Parliamentary sitting, the Speaker said even though they have formed a quorum to sit, they did not have a quorom for decision making, per the Standing Orders of the House.

Prior to the Speaker announcing his decision to suspend Parliament, the NDC caucus had occupied the Majority area of the Chamber while NPP MPs had walked out of the Chamber.

They had earlier at a press conference indicated that they will protect their Majority status jealously, adding that attempts by the court to interfere in the affairs of Parliament is unlawful.

The Speaker, however, acknowledged the Supreme Court’s ruling to stay the declaration of some four seats vacant. He, however, did not say whether or not he was going to adhere to the directive.

On October 18, 2024, the Supreme Court stayed the Speaker's decision to declare some seats vacant.
