A global provider of commercial and consumer property and casualty reinsurance, Sompo, has appointed Maya Dongyoung Lee as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Asia Pacific (APAC), effective October 16, 2024. 

The newly appointed COO will report to COO Sompo International Holdings, Daniel Englberger, and APAC Insurance, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kenneth Reilly.

In her new position, she will be in charge of overseeing Sompo's APAC operations, which will include project management, operational excellence and resilience, transformation, and growing the company's operational footprint throughout the region. She will also be responsible for cultivating people and competencies in the area.

Mr. Englberger, on Lee's hiring, said, “Maya is an outstanding hire for Sompo. Her exceptional track record for leading organisational change at several global businesses makes her perfectly placed to develop and execute the next stage of the operations and transformation strategy in our APAC region.”

Similarly, Mr. Reilly also shared his excitement to welcome Maya to the APAC leadership team. “She brings with her a wealth of global experience both from a consulting and insurance industry perspective. I am confident Maya will drive operational effectiveness and excellence, as well as process architecture governance across our entire APAC business.” He added.

Lee formerly held the position of COO at Manulife Philippines before joining Sompo and will be headquartered in Singapore as she becomes a part of the APAC executive team.

Before joining Manulife, Lee worked for PwC for several years, where she served as Consulting Director of PwC Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Lee also worked as the Lead Business Process Architect of MetLife Japan for some years. During her tenure in this position, she oversaw major operations transformation initiatives as a lead business analyst, creating future state processes and operating models that matched Japanese and international priorities.
