The government's reluctance to pay them their allowances has infuriated trainee nurses in Sampa, Bono Region. The students have not yet received any of the government-promised financial support; they stated that they are in their second year and getting ready to proceed to their third. The trainees expressed their concerns, highlighting the discrepancy between the Vice President's campaign promises and their current situation.

One of the nurses stated that their seniors in their first year of school only received half of what was promised, and that they had never received any allowances. Their reaction follows Vice President Dr. Bawumia's campaign stop in Sampa.

The nurses said in a video that was posted on X that described the incident that they would prefer to support John Mahama, the front-runner for Dr. Bawumia.

While the Vice President persists in campaigning on the promise of trainee allowances, the impacted students are demanding prompt action to rectify the hold-up and honour the government's commitment.

The trainee nurses' allowance promises made by NPP

Among the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) major campaign promises was the restoration of nursing trainee payments, which had been cut by the previous administration. This pledge, which they reiterated in subsequent elections, served as the focal point of their 2016 election campaign.

The goal of bringing back these stipends was to encourage more people to pursue careers in healthcare and assist nursing students in meeting their financial responsibilities. However, because of the current delay in the funds' delivery, the trainees' dissatisfaction has increased; they feel deceived by the unfulfilled promises.
