Sammy Gyamfi Labels Hawa Koomson "A Candidate for Jail Over Scandal Allegation"
The National Democratic Congress' National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has launched a scathing attack on the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Fisheries, Hawa Koomson.
He accused Koomson of supervising corruption when she was Minister for Special Development Initiatives, particularly involving the government's One Village, One Dam initiative.
Gyamfi made the comment during a tour in the Awutu Senya East constituency, saying the management of the initiative by Koomson ran financial losses into the state. The One Village, One Dam initiative is one of the NPP's flagship projects. It was to encourage all-season farming through the construction of irrigation dams in the Northern and Savannah regions. However, the entire project has faced vehement criticism on account of its poor implementation, as most of these dams have not been able to retain water and have turned virtually useless.

Gyamfi made the point that such a meager budget of GHS 250,000 for one dam was a small cost for a magnitude of work problem even Koomson herself had earlier admitted. Despite that, most of the dams were in such bad shape that it sparked suspicion of financial misfeasance.
Sammy Gyamfi also mentioned that Hawa Koomson's involvement in the failed project befits prosecution for willfully causing financial loss to the state. He therefore told the public that under the future NDC government led by John Mahama, initiatives such as "Operation Recover All Loot" would be rolled out to retrieve the siphoned money and try offenders.
The promise is a firm commitment of the NDC to restoring accountability and integrity in the public sector, with a key focus on alleged financial mismanagement under the Akufo-Addo administration.
