NPP Hopes to Strengthen U.S.-Ghana Ties Under Bawumia, Following Trump’s Victory
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed hope that Ghana’s relationship with the United States will grow stronger under the leadership of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Following the victory of the Republican Party in the 2024 U.S. elections, the NPP congratulated President-Elect Donald Trump and Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance, saying that their win shows the support for the Republican Party’s vision.
In a statement, the NPP said, “This victory, without a doubt, is an emphatic endorsement of the vision and ideals of the Republican Party by the good people of the United States.” They also praised the peaceful way the U.S. elections were held, calling it an example for Ghana. “America has, once again, shown the way, and we, in Ghana, have some useful lessons to learn from this American example, particularly as we prepare to go to the polls on December 7, 2024,” the NPP stated.
The NPP also spoke about the long-standing relationship between the Republican Party and the NPP. They pointed out that both parties share similar values and ideas, and both belong to the International Democrat Union (IDU), a group of centre-right political parties. “We share a lot of things in common with the Republican Party, including the great ELEPHANT symbol, political orientation, and ideology,” the NPP noted.
The party expressed their belief that Ghana could follow in the footsteps of the Republican Party’s victory. “It is our fervent hope that just like the United States, Ghana’s ‘elephant party’ will also emerge victorious in the December polls, by the grace of God,” the NPP added. They are confident that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership will guide Ghana to success, just as President Trump has led the Republican Party.
The NPP also mentioned that the relationship between the two countries has great potential for future growth. “We wish the Trump administration the very best in their tenure of office as the incoming Bawumia administration, by God's grace, hopes to build on the already fruitful relationship between the two political parties and nations for mutual benefits,” the statement concluded.
The NPP believes that under Bawumia, Ghana can strengthen its relationship with the U.S. and work together on important issues. “Our relationship with the U.S. is one of great potential, and we look forward to working closely with President Trump’s administration as well as the U.S. Congress to advance shared interests,” the NPP noted.
