NPP Caucus to Cite Speaker Bagbin for Contempt Over Supreme

Adansi Asokwa MP, Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond, revealed that the Speaker failed to honor a stay of execution order from the Supreme Court concerning the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.

Speaking to the media after an indefinite adjournment of Parliament, KT Hammond criticized Speaker Bagbin for not ensuring the court’s directive was followed within the chamber.

He emphasized that the Speaker’s actions were unconstitutional, warning that the NPP would formally cite him for contempt if the ruling continued to be ignored.

The Speaker is behaving unconstitutionally. He must respect the Supreme Court’s decision. We will cite him for contempt. This is not just about acknowledging the ruling; it’s about implementing it,” a visibly frustrated Hammond said.

He also stressed that respecting the court’s decision is in the best interest of the nation, urging Bagbin to inform the House that the ruling had been reversed.

The parliamentary session on November 7 was adjourned sine die due to a lack of agenda items, a development that followed a boycott by NPP MPs and an unusual move by NDC MPs taking control of the Majority side of the House.
