NIA to Begin Ghana Card Registrations for Children Aged 6 to 14 in September

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will commence Ghana Card registrations for children aged 6 to 14 starting in September. This new phase follows the successful registration of 18 million Ghanaians aged 15 and above.

Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, Executive Secretary of the NIA, revealed that the initiative has already undergone a pilot phase in the Eastern and Central regions. The lessons learned from these pilots have enabled the NIA to prepare for a nationwide rollout.

We have started looking at Ghanaians aged between 6 and 14 years because the mass registration and the continuous registration captured Ghanaians 15 years and above," Prof. Attafuah explained. "We are now turning our attention to those below the age of 16. Between July 20 and July 23, we piloted the registration of this cohort of the population in the Eastern and Central regions. Based on that, we have learned some lessons and are retooling our mechanisms to begin the registration of this class of people.

The upcoming registration drive aims to ensure that all Ghanaians, including those below 15 years, are included in the national identification system.
