Ministry of Health Refers Ojobi Women's Death Case to CID and AG
The Ministry of Health has referred the case involving alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department for further investigation.
This decision was made following directives from the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, after an internal review by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) concluded that staff involved did not act appropriately during the transfer of a patient who was later abandoned and died.
The GHS report indicated that the employees were involved in the mishandling of a patient during her transfer from the hospital to Ojobi. The Ministry of Health has acknowledged the gravity of the situation, citing that further investigations are required, especially given the loss of life.
The Ministry has now requested the Attorney General's Department to investigate the matter in order to determine the culpability of the affected individuals. The case has also been forwarded to the CID, in line with the Ministry's commitment to ensuring accountability and high standards in healthcare delivery.
According to the Ministry, disciplinary action will follow for those found responsible. The Ministry also stated that it remains dedicated to preventing a repeat of such tragic circumstances.
The full report on this matter is available on the Ministry of Health’s website.
