Man Reportedly Commits Suicide Over his Girlfriend's Pregnancy Announcement

A 37-year-old man allegedly poisoned himself over the pregnancy of his girlfriend. The deceased, was found behind a filling station in Awutu Senya East Municipality over the weekend. According to the locals, he had been wandering in the area before the incident but nobody intervened.

A mobile phone was found beside the body of the man, which led authorities to trace his girlfriend, who stays in the Volta Region and confirmed being in a relationship with him, adding that her boyfriend ran away after she told him about her pregnancy. Sources close to the story indicate the girlfriend's father was a strict person and might have involved the law if he had stayed.

The fact that the deceased traveled all the way from the Volta Region to Kasoa, probably out of fear of punishment or societal shame, speaks volumes about how stressful such situations can be. Eyewitnesses also blamed the response from the local police for not taking any action against calls reporting the man lying unconscious.
