Majority Chief Whip Accuses NDC of Causing More Water Pollution Than NPP
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyir, has claimed that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was more responsible for polluting water bodies than the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
His assertion comes amid ongoing discussions about illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as "galamsey," which have severely damaged the country's water bodies.
During an emergency parliamentary sitting in Accra on Tuesday, Annoh-Dompreh responded to concerns raised by the minority regarding the government's perceived failure to effectively address the galamsey issue. He argued that an investigation would reveal that the NDC's tenure caused greater water pollution.
"I was very happy when the Minority Leader challenged us that we will debate this matter and the culprit will be mentioned. In fact, we are ready to debate now. If we are to look and investigate both sides of the house," Annoh-Dompreh remarked.
He further stated, "You have had the opportunity to rule this country before. I can tell you; you polluted the water more than us. You polluted the water more than us. So, let’s get matters straight."
Annoh-Dompreh's comments highlight the ongoing political blame game over the galamsey issue, with both major political parties accusing each other of failing to protect the nation's natural resources.
