Mahama Hits Back at Bawumia: Ghana Needs an Experienced Leader, Not a Novice
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded sharply to his main contender, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a recent community engagement during his Greater Accra regional campaign, Mahama criticized Bawumia's claims that the electorate should choose him over Mahama due to his lack of presidential experience.
During a media engagement, Bawumia emphasized that while he has never served as President, his opponent has had that experience and argued that the electorate should consider this when voting. Bawumia’s comments came in the wake of the NDC’s manifesto launch, which he described as a “failed attempt” by the NPP to distract Ghanaians from their plans.
Mahama responded by highlighting the need for experienced leadership in Ghana. He accused Bawumia and the NPP of attempting to divert attention from the NDC’s agenda and described their approach as a “trial and error” strategy that could further harm the country.
“Our youth do not have the luxury of time. They are the future and the present. They don’t have time for trial and error. We cannot afford to have someone come in, make mistakes, and then have another person try again, potentially worsening the situation,” Mahama stated.
He underscored the necessity of having an experienced leader at the helm, likening the country’s need for stable and informed leadership to needing a “licensed driver” to safely navigate Ghana’s challenges. Mahama’s remarks reflect his stance that experience and proven leadership are crucial for guiding Ghana to progress and stability.
Mahama’s rebuttal underscores the stark contrast between his experience and Bawumia’s promises, as the NDC continues to position itself as the party with the tested leadership necessary for the country’s advancement.
