Mahama Hails Declaration of 4 Vacant Seats as Divine Sign of NDC's December Victory
Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, described the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin as a signal from heaven that his party was on course to win the December 2024 elections.
The development, according to Mahama, who spoke at a rally in Ningo-Prampram on 17th October 2024, is a pointer to the changing political fortunes in favor of the NDC.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has approved a motion advanced by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and declared the seats of four MPs vacant. The legislators involved are Cynthia Morrison, MP for Agona West; Kojo Asante, MP for Suhum; Andrew Asiamah, MP for Fomena; and Peter Kwakye Ackah, MP for Amenfi Central.

All these members had declared their intention to contest as independent candidates in their various constituencies come the general elections, contrary to the constitutional provisions that regulate membership in the Parliament of Ghana.
Three of those who have been affected are all from the NPP, and one is from the NDC. Former President Mahama explained that it could mean a change in fortune in Parliament where the minority may become the majority.
"This is a historic moment," Mahama underscored, "but for me, God is just showing us a sign of what is going to happen, but we have to put in the work to make that reality in December."
This looks fine, but the final victory is hinged on what we do as a party in the last few months to the polls, so do not be complacent", he advised as he rallied his support base. He impressed upon them the need for hard work, unity, and perseverance that must characterize the NDC as it gears toward the forthcoming elections.
