In his speech, Mahama celebrated the election of Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female vice president. He praised her for her leadership and the example she sets for women.

“Nana, your decency, your humility, and your sense of responsibility added so much to this campaign,” Mahama said. “The eyes of every young girl and woman, not only in Ghana but in nations across this continent and the world, are going to be on you from today.”

He added, “You have not only opened the door, but you’re going to keep the door open for many other women. Your name has become synonymous with breaking boundaries. Because of you, the people of Ghana can today celebrate the fact that we have made history by electing our first woman as vice president.”

As Mahama prepares to take office, he expressed his commitment to working together with all Ghanaians to build a better future.
