Lil Win and Martha Ankomah's Case Proceeds to Court After Failed Settlement
Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, known as Lil Win, faces a GH¢5 million defamation suit filed by actress Martha Ankomah, as revealed in Accra’s High Court.
Attempts for an out-of-court settlement have failed, prompting the plaintiff's lawyers to request that the case proceed in court.
Back in July, there were discussions about a possible settlement, leading to a court adjournment.
Justice Forson Agyapong Baah adjourned the case to 5 November 2024, noting, “In the circumstances, the case is adjourned to 5th November 2024, for hearing to begin at 8:30 a.m. Let hearing notices, along with today’s notes, be issued and served on the defendant.”
The plaintiff, Martha Ankomah, was present, but Lil Win, the defendant, was absent from court, as was his legal representation.
The legal battle follows some statements Lil Win made in a viral video about Martha Ankomah, to which the actress took offence.
Lil Win called her out for "disrespecting" Kumawood by criticizing their movie storylines.
Martha Ankomah is seeking, inter alia, compensatory damages for harm done to her reputation, aggravated damages for reckless publication, a public apology and retraction from Lil Win, an injunction against future defamatory remarks, and legal costs.
