Mulch Company Limited, the Dutch firm operating the famous Legon Botanical Garden, has announced the permanent closure of the garden effective October 30, 2024.

This was contained in an announcement put on the company's social media platform X, formerly called Twitter, on Thursday, October 11.

Mulch Company hailed them with a short statement, thanking the public for enjoying the garden over the years.

"We close the Legon Botanical Gardens on 30th October, 2024. We believe we have been able to put lots of smiles on countless number of faces all these years. Legon Botanical Gardens was a chapter. Follow Mulch Company Ltd," the post read. However, the shutdown reason was not relayed to the general public, raising many questions concerning the future of the space.

Over the years, Mulch Company Limited has transformed the Legon Botanical Garden into a world-class eco park through a public-private partnership with the University of Ghana. The garden had been one of the favorite recreation spots, attracting families, nature lovers, and tourists with its serene environment, canopy walks, and varied wildlife.

This will, therefore, bring down the curtains on one of the most visited green spaces in Accra. Coming just weeks before the shutdown, the announcement has many wondering what becomes of the botanical garden and whether or not that space is due for another chapter. For now, the onus for further details rests with Mulch Company Limited.
