Kyerewere Accident: 15 Injured
Fifteen passengers have been reported to have sustained injuries in a serious accident at Kyerewere on the Nsawam-Suhum road. The accident involved a sprinter bus said to be travelling from Kumasi to Accra, which reportedly lost control due to a tyre burst, causing the driver to swerve violently in an attempt to brake.
Eyewitnesses recounted harrowing moments of the accident. "I was eating when I heard a loud sound of a tyre bursting. When I ran out to check, I saw the sprinter had lost control and three passengers had been thrown onto the road. I quickly rushed toward her and tried to help a woman whose leg was caught between the doors With the driver struggling hard to regain control, it veered off the road into bushes."
Out of the 15 injured passengers, three were rushed to the hospital in critical condition, with one reportedly fighting for their life. There are also unconfirmed reports that a mate of the vehicle might have lost his life in the tragedy, although authorities have not yet confirmed this.
The Ghana Police Service has since arrived on the scene, working to manage the aftermath and conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Preliminary reports indicate that overspeeding contributed to the severity of the accident, since the driver lost control when the tyre burst.
