Kuta Body Alone: There Is No Point In Comparing Ghanaian Actors To Nigerian Actors

Ghanaian playwright, Kuta Body Alone is appealing to critics to stop comparing Ghanaian actors to their Nigerian counterparts since that is counterproductive.

To him, Ghanaian actors have great talents; with continued comparisons against Nigeria's Nollywood, morale among home-based artists diminishes.

Kuta Body is known for plays such as "Sand in My Sugar" and "Double S". His latest production, "In God We Trust", is set to premiere at the Efua Sutherland Drama Studio in Legon on 26th October 2024. He spoke fervently of the commitment and professionalism of actors in Ghana-whose industry may face problems, but whose local talent will hold its own in its own right.

According to Kuta Body, "Ghanaian actors and film crew are indeed incomparable. The talent and commitment are clear, and though areas of improvement might be captured, the work we produce is indeed great and deserves recognition." He further explained that in comparing Ghanaian and Nigerian actors, there were areas where Ghanaian actors had an edge over Nigerian actors.

He made this statement while recognizing that Nigeria enjoys global acclaim, and Ghana filmmakers are making important strides: "We should celebrate our actors, directors, and production teams who create culturally relevant and thought-provoking content."

Kuta Body further stressed that festivals and the international arena are what are worth writing about, regarding Ghanaian cinema. He said that while the industry keeps growing, he would have loved to see more support for local productions and would wish the stakeholders in the industry to concentrate their attention on upgrading the Ghanaian film industry to international standards other than mere comparison.
