After the confirmation of two cholera cases in the municipality and awaiting the results of further suspected cases, the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate has issued a health alert.

This was confirmed by Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Director Dr. Esther Priscilla Biamah Danquah in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday.

Dr. Danquah stated that the two cases were verified late last week and that multiple suspected cases had been reported from various areas within the municipality.

She underlined the significance of thorough public education on cholera prevention, stressing that environmental cleanliness and good hygiene practices were crucial to halting the disease's spread, and she reassured the public that health staff were on high alert.

We need to educate our residents on maintaining personal and food hygiene, as well as proper disposal of waste, because cholera is primarily spread through contaminated water and food, she stated. As part of its containment efforts, the Municipal Health Directorate is now supplying chlorine for water purification and conducting public health campaigns in the affected regions.

Dr. Danquah called on the Assembly and community leaders to support health workers in making sure residents maintained good cleanliness and took health measures. She recommended residents who suffered symptoms like vomiting or severe diarrhea, which are typical indicators of cholera, to get medical help right away.

On October 11, 2024, the Ghana Health Service declared the cholera outbreak in the Ada East and Ada West Districts for the first time after receiving nine cases in all.
