According to the Transport Minister, KIA boasts among the world's greatest safety and security standards. In order to combat the cocaine problem at Kotoka foreign airport (KIA), foreign partners have collaborated, according to Transport Minister Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah. He claims that KIA has some of the best security and safety in the world.

This was said by Mr. Ofori Asiamah when he disclosed that certain employees of Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) who were connected to a cocaine smuggling incident at KIA had been reinstated following inquiries.

"The security at various airports collaborate with each other, I can even let people slip in for him to be busted at another Airport" he claimed. “”On behalf of other nations, we have also busted other individuals here. According to the Minister, the Committee's conclusions regarding the incident demonstrated that the employees were not at fault, which is why their reinstatement was necessary. He added that the issue was handled internally to the highest standards by the Assurance Committee. He believed that since no one was found guilty, no one was punished.

Recall that the Herald Newspaper covered the cocaine smuggling bust on April 10, 2024. According to the newspaper, the scandal started when a large amount of illegal drugs were seized at Brussels Airport in Belgium. It was reported that a GACL employee helped smuggle the cocaine through KIA on board Royal Air Maroc, the Moroccan national airline, in March.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the chairman of the Assurance Committee, voiced his displeasure with GACL for not informing the public of the investigations' findings. According to him, it is only right that the public be made aware of the findings of the investigations and the steps GACL is taking to ensure public safety.
