John Mahama Commits to Integrating Private Schools into Free SHS Program

Former President John Dramani Mahama addressed attendees at the launch of the 2024 annual week celebration of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools. In his speech, he emphasized the crucial role that private schools play in providing quality education for Ghanaian children.

Mahama underscored the significance of private schools as essential partners with the government in the education sector. He praised them for their innovative teaching techniques and procedures, which have often set benchmarks for the entire education system. Additionally, Mahama commended private schools for their effectiveness in catering to special children, owing to their favorable teacher-to-pupil ratio.

As the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama assured the association of private schools of his commitment to prioritizing education. He pledged to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to comprehensively review the education structure, ranging from basic to tertiary levels.

Of particular note was Mahama's promise to integrate private secondary schools into the Free Senior High School (FSHS) program. He recognized that many private schools possess the necessary infrastructure and human resources to support the FSHS initiative effectively. This move, Mahama believes, will not only expand access to education but also alleviate the financial burden currently borne by parents and the government at the secondary education level.

Mahama reiterated his unwavering belief that every child in Ghana deserves access to quality education. He affirmed his dedication to working towards this noble goal and urged collective efforts in building a brighter future for Ghana's children.
