John Krugu questions AG on withdrawal of rival Bawku Naaba arrest warrant

The NPP Parliamentary candidate for Zebilla, John Krugu, has expressed concern at the Attorney General's decision to withdraw an appeal that sought to restore an arrest warrant against a claimant to the title of Bawku Naaba. According to Mr. Krugu, this move risks destabilizing the Kusaug traditional area that has enjoyed relative peace in the last year mainly because of the firm stance of the government against any challenge to the authority of the recognized Bawku Naaba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.

The Attorney General's recent withdrawal of that appeal comes after a Court of Appeal decision vacating the original warrant increased tensions in the Bawku area. According to him, he believed the stance of the government could inadvertently undermine peace efforts in the region as he told Citi News in an interview.

He added that considering the gravity of the situation, he is suspending his campaign activities in Zebilla until the government gives a full explanation for the action.

"Some NDC members are spreading rumors that I am withdrawing from the race; that is not true. They think the issue at hand is a minute one, and are trying to make gains out of it, but let them watch their backs," he said.
