Ini Edo Cries Out As She Denies Rumor of Her Engagement
Nollywood actress, Ini Edo has spoken wildly about rumors concerning her "engagement." This buzz began in September 2024, when Ini posted online a photo of herself dressed in a traditional and beautiful Efik bridal gown and a romantic caption to boot on her social media. Immediately, fans and media jumped to the conclusion of an engagement announcement.
But in a telephone exclusive with Nigeria's Premium Times, the actress disclosed that the post was only a publicity gimmick for her forthcoming four-part series, My Fairytale Wedding, and not a hint that she is tying the knot anytime soon.
In an interview, Ini Edo answered on marriage and if she ever imagined having a fairy tale wedding in her life: "I am not crazy about marriage; I am crazy about having a solid relationship. I am not hoping, and it is not any of my prayer points." Her candid response sheds light on feelings that have tended to rise among many, especially women, reevaluating the conventional notion of marriage.
Indeed, Ini Edo's past marriage to a Nigerian-American businessman named Philip Ehiagwina-which lasted from 2008 until their divorce in 2014-no doubt tempers her now. The childless couple had a very public split that has more than likely sculpted her thoughts on relationships.
Ini Edo made news in 2021 with the arrival of her first daughter, Light, through a surrogacy decision she had made to protect her mental health and not have controversy surrounding her personal life. Surrogacy is when one woman carries a baby for another woman or couple. It is mainly misconstrued, but in this case, it allowed Edo to be a mother while controlling her circumstances.
Sharing her thoughts and experiences, she opened up a dialogue about how meaningful relationships can be considered more of a priority over the traditional milestone of marriage.
