I am not stepping down as an independent candidate"-Suhum MP Kwadjo Asante

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Suhum, Kwadjo Asante, has denied widespread rumors of him stepping down as an independent candidate ahead of the December 2024 elections. Popularly known in the constituency as Boafo, Asante has been in the middle of speculation after a photo of him and the Majority Leader went viral, with claims going up that he might exit the race.

However, Samuel Baah Gosh, spokesperson for the campaign team of Asante, in an interview with Channel One News, set the record straight when he said, "Suhum MP, Hon. Kwadjo Asante is still in the race contesting as an independent candidate for the Suhum constituency come December 7, 2024." He therefore dismissed the notion that Asante was going to back down from the contest, saying, "The MP has been and is still prepared to contest.".

The supporters of the constituency have mixed reactions concerning the rumors. Some residents brushed off the news as speculations and expressed their continued support for Asante. One resident expressed this, "There was a rumor that he has stepped down, but I don't believe it. he's the one we will vote for."

Kwadjo Asante has won the loyalty of his people through his track record, especially in the building of Suhum by putting up infrastructures. His followers hailed his contribution to development, citing asphalt roads, hospitals, and markets that were provided during his tenure.

The mood was, however, charged with threats of violence should he step down. One of his supporters ominously warned that any decision to step down could lead to extreme reactions.

As December elections draw near, Suhum is one of the political hotbeds in the country, as Kwadjo Asante has refused to rule himself out.
