Government Introduces Free Access to 2024/25 SHS/TVET Placement Results

The Ministry of Education has introduced a revolutionary policy where students can access placements to Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) free of charge. The development, announced on October 25, 2024, would stop students from having to purchase pin codes to access the placement results, reducing the financial burden it places on families in Ghana. This initiative covers all students using the Computerized School Selection and Placement System, a platform that has hitherto required students to purchase a code before they can access their results.

The CSSPS system has, over the years, remained an indispensable tool for students across the country, as it determines placements for students going to SHS and other TVET institutions. In the new policy, students will only need to log onto the official CSSPS website, enter their unique index numbers followed by the year of completion, and click "Submit" to see their results. This streamlined process ensures publication is immediate, and free access, thus cutting out barriers for those who might struggle with the added expense.

Speaking in a statement, Ministry of Education Spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng said the Government was irrevocably committed to ensuring that education for all would soon become a reality when he made the following remark: "Removing the pin code requirement is one way for the Ministry to ensure that every Ghanaian, but more importantly those households in lower income quintiles, has fair and equal access to an enhanced basic education". Indeed, most families in rural and underserved districts-where even small fees serve as barriers to access to education-would welcome this move as a step in the right direction.

This also addresses the broader goals of breaking down the financial barriers that prevent students, especially girls and those from low-income backgrounds-from continuing education. This, therefore, sets an example of progressive moves by the government in underlining its resolve to ensure access to education equitably for all.
