GNPC Unveils Modern Sanitary Facility at Sekondi School for the Deaf
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has officially handed over a state-of-the-art 24-unit sanitary facility to the Sekondi School for the Deaf in the Western Region.
This project is part of GNPC's ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for vulnerable communities across Ghana.
The new facility, which includes 12 toilets and 12 washrooms, is equipped with a mechanized water system designed to end the practice of open defecation among the students. Previously, the students, who are mostly children with special needs, had to walk long distances to use restroom facilities.
This latest contribution follows GNPC's earlier donation of a 160-bed capacity dormitory to the school, further underscoring the corporation’s commitment to supporting education and improving the well-being of Ghana's youth.
During a brief ceremony to commission the facility, Benedict Adde, the Team Lead for GNPC Foundation's Environment and Social Amenities Unit, highlighted the significance of the project. He noted that it is one of many Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by GNPC to make a positive impact in the lives of Ghanaians. He urged the school community to maintain the facility to ensure it serves future generations.
Expressing her gratitude, the Headteacher of the school, Madam Regina Essilfie, lauded GNPC for their timely intervention. She explained the challenges the students faced due to the lack of adequate sanitation facilities and emphasized that the new facility would greatly enhance the hygienic conditions at the school, particularly as the student population has grown to 315.
Madam Essilfie also assured GNPC that the school is committed to preserving the facility for decades to come. Other key attendees at the ceremony included Assistant Headteacher Joyce Ama Polley, Senior House Master Francis Tane Ackah, Administrator Grace Fordjour Kwofie, and House Mothers Faustina Vormawah, Wendy Cobbina, and Olivia Edzagbo.
