Ghana Armed Forces Announce that there will be no Soldier at Various Polling Stations on December 7
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has assured the public that no military personnel will be deployed to polling stations during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a statement dated December 1, 2024, and signed by the Director General of Public Relations, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, GAF reaffirmed its dedication to peaceful elections. The statement clarified that the military’s role will be limited to standby support, with the Ghana Police Service (GPS) taking the lead in election security. Military deployment will occur only at the request of the GPS, ensuring the process remains orderly and peaceful.

GAF also urged the public to report any military personnel or individuals in military attire found at polling stations on election day to the nearest police station for appropriate action. The statement provided GPS toll-free numbers—18555 or 0800 311 311—for reporting such incidents.

This announcement comes after a warning from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which pledged to resist any attempts at voter intimidation through military deployment on December 7, 2024.

Separately, the Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the National Election Security Taskforce, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, reiterated his commitment to ensuring peaceful elections during a meeting with the Commonwealth Observer Group Mission to Ghana on Monday, December 2.
