Focus on Youth Development - CK Akonnor Details How to Fix Black Stars
Former Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has opined on the decline in the performance of the Ghana Black Stars and how to revive the team. He shared his tactics on how to revive the team to its former glory.
According to the seasoned football coach, who was speaking in an interview with BBC Africa, the Ghana Football Association's (GFA) lack of investment in youth development has had a significant impact on the senior national team.
In the interview, he called for the introduction of youth development programs, stressing that the heavy focus on the Black Stars has undermined the performance of the country's other national teams.
"I think we focus on the Black Stars too much. We have left our youth development behind. We have the potential to be better, and we need to do something drastic with all urgency,” he told BBC Africa.
The Black Stars picked up just one point from four during the October international break as they faced Sudan in a double-header which leaves them on the brink of missing out on a place in Morocco.
Addo's side drew goalless at home in the first meeting before losing to Kwasi Appiah's men in Libya with a 2-0 score.
Ghana sit third on the table behind Angola and Sudan heading into the final games of the qualifying series.
Meanwhile, Former Ghana national team coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, has accepted a new role as a consultant for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Reports indicate that Akonnor, who previously managed Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, will provide his expertise to CAF in an advisory capacity.
