Five Key Social Interventions in the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto

The NDC's 2024 manifesto outlines several social interventions designed to alleviate hardships and provide targeted support to vulnerable groups.

Five key initiatives that the next NDC/Mahama government plans to implement:

  1. No-Academic-Fee Policy: Within the first 90 days in office, the NDC will introduce a "No-Academic-Fee" policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions, including universities, technical universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and nursing training institutions. This initiative, part of the broader “No-Fees-Stress” program, aims to ease the financial burden on students and their families.

  2. Reintroduction of SLTF Plus: To further support continuing students in public tertiary institutions, the NDC will reintroduce and redeploy the SLTF Plus. This program will provide financial assistance for fees, ensuring that students can continue their education without interruption under the “No-Fees-Stress” initiative.

  3. Free Tertiary Education for Persons With Disabilities: The NDC is committed to promoting inclusivity by offering free tertiary education to persons with disabilities. This initiative will ensure that disabled individuals have equal access to higher education opportunities.

  4. Ghana Medical Care Trust (MahamaCares): The establishment of the Ghana Medical Care Trust, also known as MahamaCares, will provide financial support for healthcare costs associated with chronic diseases such as kidney failure (dialysis), cancers, sickle cell disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other heart diseases. This trust aims to reduce the financial burden on patients and their families.

  5. Free Sanitary Pads for Female Students: Recognizing the importance of menstrual health, the NDC will provide free sanitary pads for female students in basic and secondary schools. This initiative is designed to ensure that young women can focus on their education without being hindered by the lack of access to essential hygiene products.

These interventions reflect the NDC's commitment to addressing the needs of Ghanaians, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and social welfare.
