A devastating fire broke out on Sunday, November 24, at Agbogbloshie - Old Fadama, near Borla Top Down in Accra, destroying numerous makeshift wooden homes and leaving many residents homeless.

The evening blaze caused significant property damage, with losses estimated in the thousands of cedis. Displaced residents are now urging the government for immediate assistance.

In a brief statement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the fire started around 9:38 PM. Two fire pumps were quickly dispatched to the scene, and despite initial challenges, the fire was contained by 12:54 AM on Monday and fully extinguished by 1:38 AM.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, though the full circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

Abdul Taziz Tahidu, one of the affected residents, recounted his ordeal:
"I woke up sensing the fire had started. I rushed to get my family out of the room and joined others in trying to fight the fire. When we couldn’t control it, I called the fire service for help."

Mohammed Amin, a mobile money vendor, revealed his significant loss, estimated at over 800,000 cedis:
"Everything in my store was destroyed. I’m pleading with the government for assistance. We have no place to sleep and no other options without their support."
