Kanayo O. Kanayo: Financial Responsibility Must Be A Precondition For Intimacy

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo sent tongues wagging lately with his take on financial responsibility in marriage.

Taking to Instagram, the 62-year-old thespian made his stance known on how men who do not care about putting food on the family table have "no right to intimacy." The post has brought to the fore what is traditionally expected of men.

Kanayo insisted that the roles of a man in the family go beyond affection and support. He did say that taking care of his family financially was not a social dictate but tied in with a man's morality and spirituality; as a matter of fact, a God-given duty through religious teachings. This, he said, was the most important part a husband plays, failure of which one loses all his entitlements to the privileges of marital intimacy.

He added that women must avoid being tempted to free their husbands of financial responsibilities. This, he warned, only encourages laziness and irresponsibility and places an unfair burden on women, especially if they have young children. Kanayo gave a personal testimony of how men failed to assume the simplest of responsibilities, such as fixing a car or paying school fees and left their wives to their fate.

As Kanayo said, young women need to find themselves companions who respect and fulfill their duties. He said the relationship would then be much healthier and better balanced.
