Ahead of the general elections on December 7, Musah Dankwah, Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics, has shared his thoughts on the weekly phone polls that monitor the success of different presidential contenders. Musah Dankwah claims that both telephone and field polls have consistently shown the behavior of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters.

He also claimed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters' voting habits in telephone surveys are consistent with how they behave in in-person surveys.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on Friday, October 25, Mr. Dankwah said that a sizable portion of voters who supported President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections now say they want to support former President and NDC flagbearer John Mahama, according to telephone surveys.

He clarified that more and more people now acknowledge that they supported President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections but want to support Mr. Mahama in the elections scheduled for December 7. “That number is a lot higher in the telephone polls than the field polls,” he said.

Mr. Dankwah went on to discuss the findings of their initial survey, which showed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia came in second with 39% and John Mahama in top place with 53%. Movement for Change leader Alan Kyerematen received 1.7% of the vote, New Force founder Nana Kwame Bediako received 5.2%, and other candidates received 1%.

But in a later tracking survey, Dr. Bawumia gained support and rose to 40.6%, while Mr. Mahama's numbers marginally declined to 51.1%. Nana Bediako's support grew to 5.6%, while Mr. Kyerematen's share increased to 2%. “You could see that Mahama dropped about 2% from his previous polling number and then Bawumia gained 1.6%, then Alan gained 0.3%, Bediako gained 0.6% and the other parties lost 0.4%,” he said.
