EC Releases Provisional Ballot Statistics For 2024 Elections
The Electoral Commission in Ghana on Monday announced that it had published ballot statistics ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections. This, according to a statement signed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Commission Samuel Tettey explained this strategy as a move to ensure a hitch-free and efficient polling process.
The ballot statistics were collated upon the provisional Voters' Register, which has the total number of those registered to vote, plus an additional two percent buffer to account for any increase in voter registrations and turnouts before election day. The allowance caters to the rise in these instances; it is also a result of the commission putting in place measures to avoid a shortage or any issue with the ballot paper in the run-up to the elections.

Foresightedness by the EC further demonstrates that this particular institution means business and is very willing to be transparent while at the same time getting ready for anything that may arise. Releasing such statistics in advance enables the smooth printing and distribution of ballots, and it also allows all stakeholders involved, including political parties and electoral observers, to follow the process keenly.
Although the EC encourages the maximum number of registered voters to participate in the election process, it realizes that not all registered voters will vote. Whatever the case may be, in order to avoid operational difficulties on election day, the Commission is trying to ensure that a sufficient quantity of ballots is available for all registered voters.
