Dr. Bawumia declares he will support the creation of a National Gallery of Art
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president of Ghana and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that if elected president on December 7, he will construct a National Gallery of Art.
Speaking to a gathering of artists, Bawumia emphasized the important role national galleries play in many nations, acting as a link between supporting art and increasing travel.
“As we see, many jurisdictions have national galleries of arts. If Ghana doesn’t have one, and we want to promote the art, and at the same time promote tourism, then there’s a good nexus between these two. And I will very much support the creation of a National Gallery of Art,” Bawumia stated.

He emphasized that opening such a gallery would give Ghanaian artists a place to display their creations and draw tourists, which would strengthen the local economy.
The vice president is continuing to interact with different stakeholders to discuss national development plans as part of his larger campaign efforts leading up to the December elections. But not everyone is as excited about the initiative as Bawumia is. Check out the video here.
Bawumia's previous claim that he is merely a "driver's mate" in this administration and that the shortcomings of the current one cannot be entirely ascribed to him because he plays a supporting function would seem to give him a chance of his own in response to these attacks.
