Ghanaians Frustrated Over Pending BECE Results Ahead of SHS Reporting
Following the release of the 2024 BECE results, numerous Ghanaians have raised concerns about certain subjects, particularly Career Technology, appearing as pending. This subject is a recent addition to the Junior High School curriculum, increasing the number of subjects to ten.
The reason for the pending results has not yet been officially stated. However, there is speculation that WAEC has delayed the release of the Career Technology results probably because it is new. Some also believe the delay could be linked to exam malpractices. Prior to the release, WAEC had announced that the results of 149 schools had been withheld, affecting 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates. WAEC has since begun investigations to address the issue.
Regardless, citizens have expressed their dissatisfaction with the pending results on social media. A user, PrempehNanayaa, questioned, "I visited a friend on Friday who still had some of the BECE scripts with him and was still marking. Surprisingly, the results are already out because the students must start school by October 30 at all costs. Where are these tibonkoso people taking our education system to?"
Another user, receiptsguy shared a similar sentiment, stating, "They haven't finished marking BECE scripts but have released school placements and are asking students to report in a week because they are desperate to pad up the number of "beneficiaries" of their terribly implemented free SHS. Ghanaians are lab rats to this government."
VanessaEboateng also lamented, "Unbelievable! I initially thought it was a joke. How can BECE results be released when not all subjects have been marked or released? What's the holdup on Creative Arts? Absolutely astonishing! Just wow!"
IvyEnyonam further bemoaned, "You guys, they released half-baked BECE results and kids are reporting to SHS next week. They have promoted form 2s to 3 after less than 3 months in school in the entire year!"
This situation has sparked an outcry from students to wards as the day to commence senior high school is fast approaching. While WAEC has yet to release an official statement, they have assured the public that if no misconduct is found, the pending results will be released. Otherwise, the affected results will be cancelled.
