Court Orders Pastor Salifu Amoako to Report Leaked Image of Son to Police

The Accra Circuit Court has ordered Pastor Salifu Amoako, Head Pastor of Alive Chapel International, and his wife to file a complaint against the Ghana Police Service for circulating their son's image without permission on social media. This new development comes after his son was involved in an accident in East Legon, leading to the deaths of two young girls.

Pastor Amoako, his wife, Muha, and a third person have been charged in connection with the accident because their 16-year-old son does not have a driver's license and was allegedly behind the wheels when the accident occurred. The second time Pastor Amoako and his wife appeared before the court since the arrest was to express their concern that the media is publishing photos of their son, noting that such an act infringes on the minor's rights. Their lawyers argued that the posting directly violates the Judicial Justice Act, which protects minors' identities.

The prosecution, though agreeing that the minor's privacy should not be violated, tended to make some points on the difficulty regarding the implementation of such a removal order from online platforms. They raised practical problems, especially as to how such an execution order could be carried out in relation to identifying all platforms involved in sharing the images and contacting the same.

It also directed  the couple to take the matter with the police, who may take further action with a formal complaint that may yield actionable steps against the unauthorized sharing of the minor images.
