Cletus Avoka Implicates Government in Bawku Crisis
Cletus Avoka, the Member of Parliament for Zebilla, has accused the current government of Ghana of having a hand in the resurgence of the Bawku crisis.
This ongoing conflict is deeply rooted in a chieftaincy dispute and which everyone thought had been solved or had subsided for good until the release of Alhaji Seidu Abugre who was esnkinned last year by the Mamprusis as a chief.
Due to this ongoing crisis, the police and military both pledged to ensure that peace and security reign in Bawku to protect all living in the town from harm and death. As a way of protecting the community members, a curfew has also been imposed to make sure mebers are also in their homes and away from danger.

Cletus Avoka has spoken about how this could have been prevented. In an interview with Citi News, Cletus Avoka expressed his dissatisfaction. He added, previous calls for the governemnt to take proactive measure didnt yield an responses from them. Avoka's claims are rooted in the idea that the government should have foreseen the violence that would arise should Ahaji Abagre be released from police custody
However, Avoka rejected the calls for the imposition of a state of emergency, since that is not a strategic intervention by any standards. His statement has, therefore, stirred public debate in the crisis on the role of government and the way forward for peace in Bawku.
