Catholic Bishops Urge Stakeholders to Address NDC Concerns Before Signing Peace Pact

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called on stakeholders to address the concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the party commits to any peace agreement ahead of the 2024 elections. The NDC has expressed reluctance to sign a peace pact without specific conditions being met.

In an interview with Citi News, Most Rev. Mathew Kwasi Gyamfi, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, emphasized that true peace can only be achieved when justice is served. He highlighted the importance of addressing the NDC’s concerns, such as the unresolved issues from the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and ongoing investigations into election-related violence.

"Our position is that for there to be peace, there should always be justice. Some of the issues that the NDC are raising should be addressed," Most Rev. Gyamfi stated. He urged relevant authorities to provide updates on these issues to reassure the public and build trust in the peace process.

He also stressed that the peace of the nation should not hinge on any single party’s decision to sign a peace pact, urging all political parties to prioritize national peace over political interests.
