Bono Region Disputes: Interior Minister Places Curfew on Sampa Until Further Notice
The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey has, by the Executive Instrument, imposed a curfew on Sampa Township in Jaman North District of the Bono Region.
The curfew starts from 10:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m each day effective Thursday, October 24, 2024, until further notice, a statement by the Interior Ministry said.
Mr Henry Quartey acted on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council to place the curfew following some chieftaincy disputes in the area.
The curfew was announced in a statement from the Ministry for the Interior dated October 24, 2024, signed by the sector minister.
The statement also announced a ban on the use of guns and other ammunition by Sampa inhabitants, adding that anyone found in possession of a gun would be arrested.
“Government urges Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances into ensuring peace in the area.
"Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Sampa Township in Jaman North District of the Bono Region from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement said.
