Bishop Salifu Amoako And Wife Granted ¢50,000 Bail

The Accra High Court has granted bail to Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife Mouha Amoako, who have appeared before the court following a tragic accident in East Legon that shocked the nation. The accident, which occurred on 15th October 2024, claimed two lives and raised some serious questions of law about accountability and responsibility.

The charges against them are that they knowingly allowed their son, Elrad Amoako, to drive their car without a license. Their son caused the fatal accident, and in court, it was established that the keys to the Jaguar, which their son used in the accident, were given to him by the couple's sales assistant Linda Bempah.

Both parents and Linda Bempah, who was also charged, were granted bail at ¢50,000 each. Lawyers for the defendants prayed for bail, citing that their clients have never been in trouble with the law before, would not abscond, and are tipped to make available themselves to stand trial as and when their services are required, adding that "The accused persons have no intention to interfere with the due process or commit another crime while on bail.".

The prosecution, while not opposing the application, argued that the matter was serious and needed stringent bail conditions. The court, having considered both the arguments by the defense and the seriousness of the charge, granted the bail application with reasonable conditions to enable the accused to be available for trial.
