A fatal accident occurred in East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024, which claimed the lives of two people who were burnt beyond recognition after a fire outbreak.

Allegations have emerged that Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako's 16-year-old son was involved in causing the accident due to overspeeding.

It is reported to have happened close to the Omama Shop, where the Jaguar, which was being driven by the Bishop's son, collided at high speed with an Acura. It allegedly hit the back of the Acura, causing it to swerve and plunge into the wooden electric pole. The impact brought the pole down, dropping live wires that sparked a devastating fire.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said the two vehicles were engulfed by fire almost immediately, which trapped occupants inside the Acura. The fire was so fierce that before the emergency responders could get there, there were two women with burnt bodies beyond recognition.

Even though the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly, both vehicles were already consumed by fire before firefighters could bring the flame under control.

The two occupants in the Jaguar, including the Bishop's son, survived but were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. GNFS spokesperson ADO Alex King Nartey confirmed that the fire started after the collision with the electric pole, and video footage shared on social media shows the electric wires sparking before the fire spread.
