Dr. Bawumia Pledges Support for Cocoa Farmers, Challenges Mahama to a Debate Again
In a recent campaign at Kukuom in the Asunafo South constituency, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, reaffirmed his pledge to improve conditions for Ghana’s cocoa farmers if elected president. Speaking to party supporters in the Western North Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to ensuring better financial support for cocoa farmers.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the current cocoa price stands at 3,000 cedis per ton, promising further increases in the farm gate prices to support farmers. “We will support cocoa farmers by increasing the farm gate prices. When I become president, we will implement new measures to continue supporting cocoa farmers,” he stated.

In addition to outlining his plans for cocoa farmers, Dr. Bawumia also issued again a public challenge to former President John Mahama, urging him to participate in a debate. Criticizing Mahama’s previous track record, Bawumia jabbed at the former president, questioning him to inform Ghanaians of a single intervention he implemented. He threw shade at Mahama over the Dumsor (loadshedding) and Guinea fowls’ issues. Bawumia insisted that if Mahama believes the NDC did better than the NPP, then why is he running away from a debate?
