“It Will Not Be a Difficulty for Us To Give You a Cassava Processing Factory:” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

During his speech at Central Tongu, Vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia vowed to establish a cassava processing factory to combat unemployment the youth of the community face.
He emphasized that, as president, his primary priority would be to boost the agricultural sector. To achieve this, he plans to introduce irrigation and technology for farmers. “My biggest priority as a president will be agriculture, to help the farmers. We are going to bring irrigation; we are going to bring technology… we are going to bring agricultural equipment to every district for the farmers of this country,” he stated.
With regards to food processing, Bawumia assured the residents that a cassava processing factory would be established to help them process their harvest. In his words, “that is not going to be a problem here. We've looked at all that it will take, but it will not be a difficulty for us to give you a cassava processing factory.”

He also pledged to provide every district with farming mechanization, including tractors and combine harvesters, readily available for farmers. “So, every district will have a district Agri mechanization center where we have tractors, we have combined harvesters, we have planters, all farming equipment that is available so that the farmers, when they need it, can get it to do their farming,” he said.
This raises the question: is the focus on agriculture a strategy to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ‘Buy Ghana First’ policy, which aims to reduce unemployment and promote the purchase of locally made products?
