Bawumia Announces Ghana's First Local Music Streaming Platform
New Patriotic Party flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia has announced the creation of a new streaming platform for Ghana.
The NPP member and vice president of Ghana said this at a meeting with the creative arts industry stakeholders in Accra on Wednesday, 16th October, 2024.
According to him, Ghanaian artistes face enormous challenges with regard to royalty payments from foreign-owned streaming platforms such as Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music, bemoaning the paltry revenue.
With the new local streaming app, Bawumia seeks to give more control and revenue to Ghanaian artistes as they push their music.
GHAMRO, MUSIGA, and other creative arts bodies have championed this initiative for years, and are glad to have it finally come into fruition.
The platform is set to launch in November this year and it seeks to revolutionalize the Ghana music scene.
Bawumia promised that the government would absorb all management and development costs related to the app, allowing for a smooth experience.
