Bawumia: I Will Focus on Agriculture during My Presidency
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured that he would prioritize investments in the agricultural sector of the economy if he becomes president.
He states that investment in the agricultural sector will be backed by data.
He said this in a Facebook post after his campaign tour of the Volta Region in the Ketu North, Ketu South, Akatsi South, and Central Tongu constituencies on Wednesday, October 23.
“As indicated in my Manifesto, a major focus of a Bawumia Presidency will be agriculture, justified by data which indicates about 60% of Ghanaians are engaged in that vital endeavour,” he wrote.
He added that his government will also facilitate the setting up of area-appropriate factories to add value and reduce post-harvest losses arising from a glut in production.
Earlier, Bawumia promised to construct mechanisation centres in every district of Ghana.
He noted that the farmers' continued dependence on rain for irrigation was unsustainable and made them vulnerable to climate change. Thus, he plans to construct irrigation systems for the farmers.
