Bawumia: Ho is to be upgraded to metropolitan status this year
The vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has declared that the Ho Municipality will become a metropolitan area this year.
“Work is far advanced to upgrade Ho to that status, and we expect the Minister of Local Government to announce this as soon as possible,” he said. During his campaign tour of the Volta Region last Tuesday, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate provided the assurance when he opened a new office facility for the Ho Municipal Assembly.
The offices of all decentralized departments and other government entities are located in the three-story, GH¢10 million building. According to Dr. Bawumia, Ho had a sizable population appropriate for a metropolitan area and sufficient infrastructure to support development.
He insisted that no government had performed better in terms of building infrastructure than the NPP, emphasizing that the accomplishment was easily visible in the roads, schools, hospitals, court buildings, public libraries, marketplaces, and artificial turfs that the government had built all over the nation during the previous eight years.
Therefore, Dr. Bawumia stated that the electorate's greatest option to prevent the nation from going backwards would be to renew the NPP's mandate.

Facilities
The University of Health and Allied Sciences, the Ho Technical University, the E.P. University College, the Ghana Communication Technology University, and a Nurses Training College are among the eight postsecondary educational establishments in the Ho municipality.
These include a private health facility, a municipal hospital, a polyclinic, and a teaching hospital with 500 beds.
Dedication
According to the vice president, the NPP is dedicated to promoting equal national development free from partisanship based on race or religion.“I am the flag bearer of the NPP, and that tells you the NPP is not an Akan party,” he said. No region will be denied its just portion of the national cake, Dr. Bawumia said, adding that the NPP was aware of the Ho municipality's and the Volta Region's top priorities. "I will address your concerns with your support," he declared.
Importance
The opening of the new office, according to Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, demonstrated the government's dedication to promoting business in the municipality and the surrounding area.
Richard Divine Komla Bosson, the Ho MCE and parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Ho Central Constituency, urged voters to evaluate him based on his two-year record and support him in order to give the constituency more development projects.
Togbe Ayim Adzokoto II, the Paramount Chief of Takla, spoke on behalf of the Asogli Chiefs and praised Dr. Bawumia for his unwavering respect for traditional authorities. He also said that Dr. Bawumia had shown humility as a leader who was willing to serve the people.
He encouraged the government to assist in developing the infrastructure to provide work opportunities for the youth, citing the municipality's enormous potential in tourism, agriculture, and aviation.
